For example, you can set your sights on Glocer’s Reef Islands: The second largest coral reef in the world which is home to 500 species of tropical fish. Enjoy its world-famous diving sites, protected sailing, sheltered mooring points, its reefs featuring a kaleidoscope of colours in browns, oranges, greens and blues and its white sandy beaches - all making for a unique and unforgettable experience in Belize.

Places to visit

The watersports base in Placencia is an excellent choice as a departure point for your cruise. Take time to visit this town - it is well worth the detour! With its relaxed, welcoming atmosphere, it has managed to preserve its authentic feel. As you walk through its narrow streets, you will be able to find local products and a few souvenirs. Unless you prefer to have lunch at one of seafood restaurants and sample the local specialities.
Go on a day trip to the waterfalls or the Mayan archaeological ruins. You can also head up the Monkey River to see howler monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas and other exotic tropical forest animals. The Blue Creek Cave is also a mysterious site which is worth a visit. Do not miss the magnificent beaches of Placencia lined with white sand and palm trees, dive into the emerald green water and admire the dozens of species of fish to be found there.

The BELIZE coral reef, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the longest in the world after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. It stretches 184 miles to the Mexican border. To the west of the barrier, the "cay" islands are home to corals inhabited by an exceptionally rich marine life. Scuba diving enthusiasts will be able to admire about a hundred varieties of coral and 500 species of fish. Do not miss the Great Blue Hole, an underwater cave that is 300 m in diameter and 124 m deep. 70 km from the largest island in Belize, Ambergris Cay is the ideal place for exploring the coral reef. Also, pay a visit to Queen Cay, Lime Cay, Hunting Cay, the Sapodillas, Buttonwood Cay and Pelican Cay. Hundreds of sandy cays all provide wonderful mooring spots where you can spend the day or night. A sailing cruise through the cays of BELIZE is ideal for diving and snorkelling enthusiasts.

If you want to enjoy a walk, Shipstern nature reserve to the north is a luxuriant area of jungle with a rich and typical animal and plant life. Do not miss a visit to Xunantunich, a Mayan archaeological site near Guatemala that offers many remains from the past. El Castillo pyramid, the most imposing building that stands at a height of 40 metres, dominates the site. From the top of the pyramid, the view stretches all around the landscapes of Belize and Guatemala. Located to the west and centre of Belize, the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest reserve offers rivers, waterfalls and natural pools in a luxuriant setting. There, you will find Five Sister Falls and Hidden Valley Falls, two of the most beautiful waterfalls in the region, and ideal spots for swimming. The reserve also shelters several caves, the best known of which is Rio Frio, with its impressive open ceiling that lets the light flood in.

To the south of Belize, you will find Punta Gorda where you can enjoy the region away from the crowds and the many tourist attractions, the Mayan sites, waterfalls, a natural pool, caves and lush jungles.
