Lago di Garda is a vast expanse of water, the northernmost part of which is surrounded by the mountains of Monte Baldo. Its total surface area is 369.98 km², with a total length of 51.6 km for 17.2 km wide, and a perimeter of 158.4 km for a maximum depth of 346 m. Traditionally, Italians distinguish two zones: to the north, the top of “Alto Lago” lake, a narrow corridor stretched out between two cliffs, and, to the south, the bottom part of the lake with more gentle shores.
