Sailing area: Germany

Germany is a Central European country, surrounded to the north by Denmark, the Baltic Sea and the North Sea, and to the east by the Czech Republic and Poland, to the west by France, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Belgium and, finally, to the south by Austria and Switzerland. The climate is continental meaning that winters are cold with temperatures of about 0°C and summers are hot, in the region of 24 °C.

Sailing in Germany

The depth of the Baltic Sea is 55 m. There are very small tides, the currents are largely affected by the effects of the wind and follow an anticlockwise movement. Along the entire German coast, the wind speed is between 4 and 8 knots.
Coolsailing offers departures from Stralsund Port to Kiel with stopovers in Rostock, Wismar, Fehmarn and, finally, Kiel.

Places of interest

Before embarking, pay a visit to Straslund on the shores of the Baltic Sea, not far from Rugen Island, famous for its chalk cliffs. This historic town has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2002. You will find many places to visit there, including the old market square with its town hall, the new market square, Saint Marie and Saint Nicolas churches, and the German Sea Museum and the Aquatic Park.
Then, make your way to Rostock and pay a visit to Saint Peter's church, then the town hall for an architectural tour. You will also find the Warnemünde regional museum and the Shipbuilding Museum, key places to visit when in this town. Then, take one of the main pedestrian streets that head east from the new market to Kropelliner Tor.
Next stage: Wismar! There, you will be able to visit the market square, Maison Schabbel, built in red brick and with a rich decoration, now the Municipal Museum, Saint George's church built in a Gothic style and, finally, the old Wismar port. A UNESCO World Heritage site since 2002 as a representative building of the cultural heritage of Hanse, the town of Wismar is an essential stopover during your cruise along the German coast.
Continue your itinerary with a stopover at the magnificent Fehmarn Island, lined with vast natural beaches, interior lakes and wild cliffs. This Baltic Island is one of the warmest regions in the area with 2,200 hours of sunshine a year. This charming island also has an aquatic park, the "Badewelt FehMare", where you will be able to relax and enjoy the sun. Watersports enthusiasts are not left out: Fehmarn Island offers a large number of sports activities, including kitesurfing, which is an internationally famous sport on this island.
You have now reached the last stopover on your cruise: Kiel, the historic naval town! It enjoys a good urban dynamic with a vibrant student life and a relaxed lifestyle. Extremely well located in the bay of Kiel, we love the charms and dynamism of its modern town centre, in particular Dänische Straße with its buildings that appear to be from another time. Music lovers will enjoy taking part in the Schleswig-Holstein, one of the largest classical music events, while sailing enthusiasts will be able to take part in Kiel Week, a large gathering of traditional boats accompanied by one of the largest popular celebrations in Europe. But, Kiel is also a town where theatre is of great importance: a large number of Polish and German theatres perform there regularly. Museums are also very important, in particular with the sailing and computing museums and the art gallery with its 40,000 works and a collection of ancient art dating back to the 19th century. Kiel is also home to an old aristocratic house that is well worth a visit. There, you will have the opportunity to discover temporary exhibitions about the history and culture of the town.
