Algarve, the Portuguese coast,
Algarve is a region of southern Portugal, the administrative capital of which is Faro. It shares its border with Andalusia in Spain and the region of Alentejo. This region is divided into two zones; the western part called Barlavento and the eastern part called Satavento.
Sailing in the Algarve from Lisbon
When departing from Lisbon, make your way to Lagos, Albufeira, Faro and, finally, Tariva. The excellent climate, temperate between June and August, and the calm waters of Algarve make it the perfect area for sailing.
Places to visit in the Algarve
Make your first stop in Lagos where you will be struck by the beauty of the natural landscapes, its golden sand beaches, its calm turquoise waters and its fabulous caves at the cliffs of Cap de Ponta da Piedad. To the east, pay a visit to Meia Praia, the longest beach in this region, as well as two small beaches where you can swim in the translucent waters lined with cliffs.
Make your way to Albufeira, the largest seaside resort in the Algarve, where you will find a radiant sun, excellent restaurants and magnificent beaches with very different landscapes, whether golden sand beaches next to a stunning lagoon or wild beaches surrounded by rocks and cliffs. You will also be able to spend some time at "Zoomarine", a water park with many attractions, including some which present dolphins and seals. In Albufeira, you will be able to visit the town, take advantage of the beaches, do some water-skiing or wake-boarding.
Then head to Faro where you will be able to enjoy a very different atmosphere from the other seaside resorts. Faro is a picturesque town that you will take pleasure in discovering, from its historic centres to its Ria Formosa nature park, not to mention its archaeological museum, Town Hall or central square. To the north of this square, you will be able to enjoy lunch at one of the restaurants in the pedestrian street before making your way to Praia de Faro, a superb beach where you will be able to spend the afternoon sunbathing. Finally, do not miss an excursion to the Palais d'Estoi or the Roman ruins of Milreu.
Now, full steam ahead to Tavira! Located in the east of the Algarve, it is a town famous for its monuments, especially its imposing churches, such as the old church of Santa Maria, as well as its magnificent beaches, such as the Praia de Tavira. Nearby, you will also find two beaches with very different atmospheres that can be accessed solely by boat from the village of Santa Luzia: Praia de Terra Estreita, ideal for rest and relaxation, and Praia do Baril, with a more lively and festive atmosphere.
